This
pot was dropped in a mangrove lagoon in Key Largo, Florida
in June, 2001. The image to the right is what the pot
looked like after 14 months of living in the dark mangrove
waters. The pot is suspended approximately 4-6 feet beneath
the surface of the water. The organisms that have made
a habitat of the pottery are primarily sponge, so I will
leave it in place until the spring of 2003. By then it
should have more significant growth of organisms containing
calcium carbonite, which will harden when dried, instead
of rotting like the sponges and tunicates will tend to
do.
